If you are one of those who is reading this blog then it will be a little weird for you that I am reviewing this movie in 2021, after almost 23 years of its initial release. But the fact is I didn't watch it before. You may be don't know that I am pretty young in this world of cinephiles. But almost like everyone I love SRK. Maybe you can say that SRK's time is over after his continuos flops after Dear Zindagi (where He is just a supporting character). But I can't understand that if a person has these types of hit movies in his showcase. Does he really care about Time?
We, the audience will always remember him. In the time of romance, dialogues, love and everything.
But 'Dil Se' is really a different thing. I watched it firstly to feel the dual not SRK and Manisha or Zinta but The Mani Ratnam and The AR Rahman. After watching Roza and Bombay, if you have any wish to see what more can be happened then Dil se is a answer for you.
Bollywood always love to remake. If that is necessary or not, we will not go to that debate. But now a days my main reason to watch zonal language films to see the creativity, to see the original stories. And these films are assets in that cases.
I love the story first of all. When I searched at wikipedia. There is something I read there. There are seven shades in love in Ancient Arabic Literature.
Dil Se is said to be a journey through the seven shades of love that are defined in ancient Arabic literature. Those shades are defined as attraction, infatuation, love, reverence, worship, obsession, and death. The character played by Shahrukh Khan passes through each shade during the course of the film
The character SRK played Amarkant Verma is a Project executive at All India Radio. The character is really something special. That we can see.
If this is the beginning of any story,
It was a rainy night. It was raining like cats and dogs. In that lonely night, you and I were sleeping inside our house, Amar reached Halflong station to catch the Barak Valley Express. He asked the station master.
"Bhaiya is the train late?"
"Yes, "
He was alone at the station. Due to boredom or to get rid off his loneliness, he wanted to lit a cigarette. But suddenly he realised that he didn't have the matches. He noticed someone was on the bench. He asked for matches to that person.
He moved nearer to that person. Suddenly wind blows to move all the curtains and to reveal all the beauty. He saw a beautiful woman was there. He thought her as a person and asked her for the matches.
Jhoka hawa ka azbhi,
Julfein Udata hoga na?
Tera dupatta aj bhi tere sar se saragta hoga na?
There is something called a deep attraction felt for someone just after seeing them for once. Amar felt that attraction for her. He wanted to talk to her. He wanted to know who she was. He wanted to know something from her. He could hear her as long as she could say. But she was silent.
As a radio artist. Amal knew well how to communicate with others. He tried a lot of things. But she was still silent.
"Hey, sorry.. I didn't realise you are a woman..by the way do you have the matches."
He loved her eyes. Because he couldn't know anything about her by seeing those two eyes. He loved the distance between them. May be it would be easier to feel when they would be close.
"Can, I do anything for you?... Anything..just ask me?"
She looked at him. Amal felt for her eyes. May be he was realising the love at first sight.
"One cup hot tea"
"Sure.. Don't go anywhere.. I am coming with two cup of tea."
It was easy for him to say anything. But in such a rainy night how he could manage two cup of hot tea. He didn't have the answer.
He saw a close tea stall and the owner was sleeping inside the stall.
"Bhaiya.. two cup hot tea.. It is about my future.. please bhaiya.."
After a little try, he finally agreed.
"Ok"
Suddenly he heard a sound. A train was coming at the platform.
"The station master said my train was too late. Is it the barak valley..express?"
"No sir.. It is another one."
"Maybe she is waiting for this one. Who knows?"
His nightmare became true. He came with two cup as soon as possible. But she already was leaving by that train.
"Hey" he shouted.
There eyes met with each other may be for the last time.
"The shortest love story anyone ever has!"
Aman said to himself.
Dil se is the debut for Preity Zinta. She played a beautiful role. It will be very odd if I don't say anything about her. I loved the way Mani Ratnam created her character Preeti Nair. That character is something different. Light minded, not so much showed her emotion in normal way, sometime childish, sometime very mature. She played the role beautifully.( I have to increase my vocabulary. I use the word 'beautiful' a lot.)
One of friend is a mad fan of SRK. He suggested me to watch this movie. Thanks Priyotosh.
Dil se was not too much successful in India. I asked this question in a fb group.
Why Dil se was not become successful in India though it was very much succesful in overseas?
The answer was pretty much simple to understand. SRK didn't do anything heroic like the other bollywood heroes to save his country. May be Some can think Amar is like a stalker and what has he done is completely for his love. This situation has originality but bollywood audiences needed more drama. I heard that Mani Ratnam had shot a different ending where Manisha was going to the stage and SRK came from the behind and they ran from there and saved his country. But some how, other members of his unit didn't like the ending because it was pretty much dramatic, far away from any original feelings. So they reshoot the final ending just a week before the initial release.
Though I am not sure about this previous fact. If you know anything about this matter then please share it on the comment section.
Dil se is some kind of movie that has its impact on the society. And the impact is much more than the love stories.
